How Does Shockwave Therapy Work?
Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) uses acoustic waves to stimulate healing in injured tissues. It is a non-invasive treatment that promotes blood flow, breaks down calcifications, and triggers the body's natural repair mechanisms.
Shockwave therapy may be considered for selected chronic tendon conditions, plantar fasciitis, calcific shoulder tendinopathy, and heel pain after assessment and screening for contraindications.
Conditions Treated with Shockwave
Common conditions where shockwave may be considered include plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, calcific shoulder tendinitis, and chronic heel pain. ESWT is paired with exercise, load management, and progress review rather than used as a standalone promise.
What to Expect During Treatment
Each shockwave session takes approximately 10-15 minutes. You may feel pressure or mild discomfort during treatment, but it is well-tolerated by most patients. There is no downtime, you can return to normal activities immediately after treatment.
